My friend Bill and the story behind the pet emergency stickers.
In 2015 My friends Bill and Lorraine Eyl’s home was destroyed by a tornado. His son is a friend of mine and I reached out to him to ask how I could help his parents. At the time I was working for the Larimer Humane Society and we were able to gather up some food and supplies for their dog Duffy. While talking to Eryc, he said " I don't know what to do about my parents' parrots, Bogie and Becall, who somehow survived the tornado and are trapped in the house.
I went to Mr. And Mrs. Eyl's house to meet with Eryc and the first thing that caught me was that the front door was still intact and there was a save my pets in case of emergency sticker on the door. Animal Protection came and they somehow got the birds in the back of a van and transported them to the Humane Society
Bogie and Bacall stayed at the Humane Society until Bill and Lorraine's daughter Jennifer could take the parrots to her house to care for them until the Eyl’s could get back on their feet after the tornado.
As a gesture of gratitude, the Eyls donated $$ so the Humane Society could make pet emergency stickers like the one on their door. They were so popular that we couldn't keep up with the demand and were getting requests from as far away as New York City.
Fast forward to almost 10 years later and sadly Bill Eyl passed away a few years ago. I've been helping his wife, Lorraine get settled into her new living space. And in the process, we found a box of Bill's gourds. I asked her if I could take them home and make birdhouses out of them.
I was driving home from her house the day that the Alexander Mountain fire began and I could see it climbing over the ridges of the foothills. I thought about Bill and those pet emergency stickers and how he would probably be first in line to try and help someone in a situation like this.
Do Good Colorado created more window cling stickers and with the help of Leapin Lizards Labels, we now have pet emergency sticker stickers available for purchase for $5. The birdhouse gourds are also available for purchase for $30 and will include a couple of stickers.
Proceeds from the sale of the stickers and birdhouse gourds will go to order more stickers to be able to give to anyone in need and also half of the proceeds will be donated to a charity of the Eyl families choosing in honor of their awesome dad and husband Bill.
Feel free to send a message if you are interested in purchasing a birdhouse Gourd or sticker.
In loving memory of Bill, love everyone and everything in your life. Never forget to count your blessings and to smil
“We Have To
Look Out For Each Other”
This was the mantra for Founder and Executive Director, Danielle Hastings during the pandemic. Realizing that there are so many wonderful people in our community who just need a little boost. Do Good Colorado was born.
Flashback to March 2021 when we got hit with a doozy Spring storm! We guess this is probably about when Do Good Colorado was born. Phillip and Danielle challenged each other to see who could shovel the most sidewalks for our elder neighbors.
From that moment it evolved into other projects including building a community garden for the Loveland Community Kitchen, shopping for toys and school supplies for other kids, volunteering for important community organizations and so much more. At the heart of everything we do is to Do Good and look out for each other
The Good We Do
